The Ache

Of all the things I remember
Of growing up on the west side
Always got the best sunsets
Grillin’ out on the back porch
Neighbor kids in the parking lot
Sister riding on the handle bars
I spent most of the Eighties
Driving my mama crazy
Still don’t know how she made it through
After my dad left I would see him
Like every other weekend
Guess he was just human too

But right now I’m feeling the ache
I didn’t build this house but I carry the weight
Between the memories and the mistakes
I can’t tell if it’s hurt or healing
But I’m feeling the ache

Sat outside in that Chevy
Windows down he lit a cigarette
I said “Dad, I gotta talk to you”
He sat there and just listened
I said things he didn’t know I knew
Then he cried when I forgave him
That’s the business of forgiveness
You can say “God as my witness”
But your heart doesn’t forget
Least it hasn’t happened yet

‘Cause right now I’m feeling the ache
I didn’t build this house but I carry the weight
Between the memories and the mistakes
I can’t tell if it’s hurt or healing
But I’m feeling the ache

I still drive by those apartments
Where we lived when you lived with us
Those were the happiest days back then
I got kids of my own now
I know it’s hard to be a man
Believe me I can understand

But right now I’m feeling the ache
It’s about as much as I can take
Right now I’m feeling the ache
I didn’t build this house but I carry the weight
Between the memories and the mistakes
I can’t tell if it’s hurt or healing
But I’m feeling the ache

He Does

Wouldn't if be great if there was an answer
A quench for the heart, a cure for cancer
Holding us close like a tiny dancer
With plenty of love for everyone
Wouldn't it be cool if we had a direct line
Straight to the top we could call anytime
Whatever the reason or inclination
With no hesitation

If only there was somebody watching over us

Oh He does
He does He does He does
Oh by the way He does
He is He was
What if it was true
Knows you more than you
He does
He does He does He does
Oh by the way He does
He lives He loves
What if Jesus saves
Oh by the way He does

Wish there was a love, a love unconditional
Maybe our condition wasn't so critical
Bless our politicians they're so political
They don't work miracles but

He does
He does He does He does
Oh by the way He does
He is He was
What if it was true
Knows you more than you
He does
He does He does He does
Oh by the way He does
He lives He loves
What if Jesus saves
Oh by the way

He knows us
He sees us
There ain't no one love me like Jesus
Found me in the night
Brought me to the light
I'm not who I was
No one loves me like

He does
He does He does He does
Oh by the way He does
He is He was
What if it was true
Knows you more than you
He does
He does He does He does
Oh by the way He does
He lives He loves
What if Jesus saves
Oh by the way He does

Thank You, Need You, Love You

Hey it's me again Lord
I'll keep it simple and short
Let you know I was feeling grateful
For everything ya done in my life
Before the moment gets away
Just want to stop and pray to ya
Real talk, I don't need a favor
I just want to praise you right now

Our God listening from Heaven
Holy is your name

I know You love to hear Your children pray
Even when we don't know what to say
Could be as simple as
Thank You, need You, love You, amen
It doesn't matter where we are
All I gotta do is share my heart
Could be as simple as
Thank You, need You, love You, amen
Thank You, need You, love You, amen

You know what I'm saying
Though I know I tend to overcomplicate it
Just like a songwriter I pull an all-nighter
Looking for a way to say I love You

Give me today my daily bread
Forgive me for my sin

I know You love to hear Your children pray
Even when we don't know what to say
Could be as simple as
Thank You, need You, love You, amen
It doesn't matter where we are
All I gotta do is share my heart
Could be as simple as
Thank You, need You, love You, amen
Thank You, need You, love You, amen

Gospel Truth

I was just thinking
Did I turn out to be who I wanted to be when I was dreaming
Back when I was 16
Back when I met Jesus
How it felt in my heart to know that God was love
And how He really sees us
I still believe it

Just because I'm a believer doesn't mean I don't forget
That my heart is a deceiver, there's doubts in my head
But I belong to a redeemer who's not finished with me yet
I could break it all and He'd make it all new
That's the gospel truth
That's the gospel truth

I was just thinking
Sitting in the backyard watching my two little girls swinging
Hope I'm good dad, God knows
That I'm not perfect
But I'm keeping my eyes on the one who is
Even though I hurt Him
He still calls me friend

Just because I'm a believer doesn't mean I don't forget
That my heart is a deceiver, there's doubts in my head
But I belong to a redeemer who's not finished with me yet
I could break it all and He'd make it all new
That's the gospel truth
(Thank God thank God thank God)
That's the gospel truth
(Thank God thank God thank God)

No lie
It's true
All the logic in the world could never pull me through
No lie
It's true
All the logic in the world could never pull me through

I was just thinking
Did I turn out to be
Who I wanted to be when I was dreaming
Back when I was 16

Yeah I may be a believer that doesn't mean I don't mess up
'Cause there's holes in my witness but He's still filling my cup
For Him I wish I could be better
But He says that I'm enough
It's done and there's nothing I could do
And that's the gospel truth
(Thank God thank God thank God)
That's the gospel truth
(Thank God thank God thank God)
Oh that's the gospel truth
(Thank God thank God thank God)
Oh it's the gospel truth
(Thank God thank God thank God)

Scars

Feels like I'm walking away
Survivor of a wreck on the interstate
Stumbling from the rubble of an earthquake
Still alive but I will never be the same
Feels like I keep waking up
From running all night through a nightmare
Lying wide awake but I'm stuck there
I can see the light but I'm still scared

They say give it time
You'll be fine
If I get one more piece of advice I'll lose my mind

God, I hope this prayer gets through the ceiling
Not that I don't believe in healing
I know I'll be ok but I'm not feeling it today
And I, I wanna think that there's a reason
That's why I'm praying to you Jesus
Cause You know it's hard
And even You had scars that never went away

It's like a whole different world
I don't even recognize it anymore
Bleeding from a wound I didn't have before
Walking with a limp on a shaky floor

And they say give it time
You'll be fine
It's easy to say when it's somebody else
It's easy to hope when it's not for yourself

Oh God, I hope this prayer gets through the ceiling
Not that I don't believe in healing
I know I'll be ok but I'm not feeling it today
And I, I wanna think that there's a reason
That's why I'm praying to you Jesus
Cause You know it's hard
And even You had scars that never went away

If I'm not gonna lose it
If I'm not gonna lose it
Promise me You'll use it
Promise me You'll use it

Oh my God, I hope this prayer gets through the ceiling
Not that I don't believe in healing
I know I'll be ok but I'm not feeling it today
And I, I wanna think that there's a reason
That's why I'm praying to you Jesus
Cause You know it's hard
And even You had scars that never went away

If I'm not gonna lose it
If I’m not gonna lose it
Promise me You'll use it
Promise me You'll use it
If I'm not gonna lose it
If I’m not gonna lose it
Promise me You'll use it
Promise me You'll use it
You'll use it

Even You had scars that never went away

Highly Favored

Just because I feel the rain
Doesn't mean it’s not from heaven
Just because I feel some pain
Doesn’t mean it’s not a blessing
Though circumstances change
One thing remains the same
I am who You say I am

I’m highly favored
Deeply loved
Bought and paid for
By the blood
I’m a child of the king
Friend of the prince
You can look it up
Got my name on the list
Ask the Savior
I’m highly favored

We are only flesh and bone
But God is gonna resurrect us
Some day He’s gonna take us home
It doesn’t mean He ever left us
Though circumstances change
You and me can stand and say
I am who You say I am
(I am I am)

I’m highly favored
(Highly favored)
Deeply loved
(Deeply loved)
Bought and paid for
(Bought and paid for)
By the blood
(By the blood by the blood)
I’m a child of the king
Friend of the prince
You can look it up
Got my name on the list
Ask the Savior
I’m highly favored

 I’m highly, highly, highly favored
I’m highly, highly, highly favored
I’m highly, highly, highly favored
I’m highly, highly, highly favored

Can We Go Home Now

Calling out of nowhere
Father are You out there
I've been feeling kind of scared
Made me want to say a prayer
So much I don't understand
Is it all part of a plan
Is time still in Your hands
Is the glass running out of sand

I know this world is a gift
But You know how broken it is

Could You come pick us up
'Cause we miss You so much
And our bags are all packed
But then we could just leave 'em
We sure love this place
But now it's getting late
And it looks like the sun's going down
Can we go home now
(Home now, home now, home now)
(Home now, home now, home now)
Can we go home now

You've given me a blessed life
Two kids and the best wife
The kind you want to hold tight
But something doesn't feel right
Can't sleep in my own bed
Find peace in my own head
Keep thinking 'bout what You said
"See you soon, but not yet"

You know the hour and the day
So it's probably not mine to say

Could You come pick us up
'Cause we miss You so much
And our bags are all packed
But then we could just leave 'em
We sure love this place
But now it's getting late
And it looks like the sun's going down
Can we go home now
(Home now, home now, home now)
Can we go home now
(Home now, home now, home now)
Can we go home now

I wonder if I'll miss the sunset
Remember this world or forget
Will I get to sit by Your side
What's it gonna be like
I wanna see my room in Your house
I wanna hear my name from Your mouth
Been waitin’ for You my whole life

Could you come pick us up
'Cause we miss You so much
And our bags are all packed
But then we could just leave 'em
We sure love this place
But now it's getting late
And it looks like the sun's going down
Can we go home now

How to Apologize

I can change a flat tire seven minutes give or take a few seconds
I can ride a surfboard on a wave never had any lessons
I can tell you every president by name
Sing you every single word of Purple Rain
I can drive to Arizona without checking directions
But I’m still learning how to apologize

I can take a few lines from a book turn it into a love song
I like to think that I’m a pretty good friend someone to lean on
I can tell you where to buy a good guitar
And you know I can find Orion in a stars
I can recommend a really good therapist if you ever need one
But I’m still learning how to apologize.

Yeah I know that no one’s perfect
And I hope you see I’m working
I don’t mean to leave you hurting
Can you see that I’m still learning
How to apologize
How to apologize

I can fry an egg sunny side up no breaking the yellow
I can turn on the Tennessee charm have you at hello
I can talk my way out of any fight
Drink my coffee in the middle of the night
But when I start thinking maybe you were right
I turn into jello
I’m still learning how to apologize
(Still learning how to apologize)

Yeah I know that no one’s perfect
And I hope you see I’m working
I don’t mean to leave you hurting
Can you see that I’m still learning
How to apologize
How to apologize
I must have done it a thousand times
Still learning how to apologize

I don’t know what to tell you
Cause the one thing left to say
Is nothing short of a breakthrough
So I hide it inside but my pride keeps on getting in the way
Sorry
Sorry
Sorry

Yeah I know that no one’s perfect
And I hope you see I’m working
I don’t mean to leave you hurting
Can you see that I’m still learning
How to apologize
(Sorry sorry)
How to apologize
(Sorry sorry)
I must have done it a thousand times
(Sorry)
Can you see that I’m still learning how to apologize

Lucky

I was talking to this dude just the other day
He was bragging about his latest family vacay
Looked at him and all I could think to say was
“Man…You’re lucky”

Then he looked at me real funny and said
“No, I’m blessed”
All of a sudden felt my faith being put to the test
You can’t stick a label on gratefulness I guess, huh

Tell me I’m not lucky, I’m a lucky man
It’s like I hit the lottery time and time again
Even when I’m losing, I’ve got the winning hand
With a good God who loves me and a girl from Kentucky
Tell me I’m not lucky

I’ve got clothes on my back and shoes on my feet
Kids running through the yard making faces at me
And when we bow our heads at night to pray
I make sure they can hear their daddy say

Tell me I’m not lucky, ‘cause I’m a lucky man
It’s like I hit the lottery time and time again
Even when I’m losing, I’ve got the winning hand
With a good God who loves me and a girl from Kentucky
Tell me I’m not lucky
(Tell me)
(Tell me I’m not lucky)
(Tell me)

You can call it whatever you want to
But I tell you it’s a gift from above
God knows that I’m thankful
But I don’t thank Him near enough
I’m the fortunate fool who gets all of His love

Tell me I’m not lucky, ‘cause I’m a lucky man
It’s like I hit the lottery time and time again
Even when I’m losing, I’ve got the winning hand
With a good God who loves me and a girl from Kentucky
Maybe I’m just lucky
(Tell me)
Tell me I’m not lucky
(Tell me)
Tell me I’m not lucky
‘Cause I’m a lucky man
It’s like I hit the lottery time and time again
Even when I’m losing, I’ve got the winning hand
With a good God who loves me and a girl from Kentucky
Tell me I’m not lucky
(Tell me)

Tell me I’m not lucky
Go on and try
Go on and try
Tell me I’m not lucky, I’m a lucky man
It’s like I hit the lottery time and time again
Even when I’m losing, I’ve got the winning hand
With a good God who loves me

Neverland

There is a place you can't see, but I'm certain it's there
Where adventure and magical memories fly through the air
Inside lives a boy who will never grow up
It's hard to believe, but it's true

 I'll never leave you
Never forget you
Darlin’, I'll love you forever
I'm never changing my mind
I'll never be perfect
I'll never stop trying
Some people say "never say never"
Some people don't understand
Dads come from Neverland

One day he saw a girl and it threw his whole world upside down
She gave him a kiss and he couldn't believe what he'd found
Treasure worth more than a pirate could steal
That's how you know that it's real

I'll never leave you
Never forget you
Darlin’, I'll love you forever
I'm never changing my mind
I'll never be perfect
I'll never stop trying
Some people say "never say never"
Some people don't understand
Dads come from Neverland
Dads come from Neverland

He's more than a kid in a story you see
That little boy is me

 I'll never leave you
Never forget you
Darlin’, I'll love you forever
I'm never changing my mind
I'll never be perfect
I'll never stop trying
Some people say "never say never"
Some people don't understand
Dads come from Neverland
Dads come from Neverland
Dads come from Neverland

The Other Side of The End

There's a place we like to dream about
A city somewhere in the clouds
Some have faith, some have doubts
Of Heaven

It's an old familiar mystery
We've heard of but we've never seen
There's no recorded history
Of Heaven

We don't know if there's a pearly gate
If you walk right through or have to wait
Will we still look like ourselves just young again
Is it silence or a symphony
Will I miss the way things used to be
Either way it helps to know I've got a friend
On the other side of the end

There's a ceiling looking down in Rome
From the mind of Michelangelo
It's beautiful but nothing close
To Heaven

We've got movies, songs, and meditations
From the best of our imaginations
I think I'll go with Revelation
Of Heaven

Is it a final breath, a cloud of fire
A whispered word, and angel choir
Will someone recognize me and let me in
A receiving line, a celebration
A drink of wine, a liberation
A glorious reunion with my friends
On the other side of the end
On the other side of the end

So whatever's there beyond the grave
The other side of time and space
I sure can't wait to see your face
In Heaven
